The Creation of Lightning and Thunder
Hayden Johnson
Once, after man had been created, and the world was new, the land was called Nlbfa. In this world there was a young man by the name of Kevinada Durantaran. Kevinada went hunting for some deer so his village of Okctunda could have food for the winter.
Halfway across the world another man went out across the sea to catch some fish. This man’s name was Phillipanu Riversalua and he came from the village of Sdcharganano.
Kevinada was sneaking up on a deer and Phillipanu was pulling in a net full of fish when, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, a storm came. The great god Davidsternopo, the god of the sky, got mad at his son, Weesternono because he hadn’t cleaned his room in the place of the gods called Starendium. Davidsternopo was so mad that he created a storm. Both Phillipanu and Kevinada were both caught in this great storm.
Kevinada was on the great mountain of Baskiebalit, when a huge flash flood caught him. He was thrown off his feet and was washed away to the foothills below. The flood washed away all of his food and supplies. Once the flash floods had subsided he was laying on a mysterious beach unconscious, and that’s when the tsunamis came.
Phillipanu got off no better, he had been fishing far out in the sea of Vootbalini and catching quite a lot of fish when the storm hit him. The mighty wind and the turbulent seas caused Phillipanu’s boat to capsize. Phillipanu barely managed to escape with his life and found refuge on a small piece of driftwood floating out near where his boat had sunk. As he lay there feeling sorry for himself little did he know that the worst was yet to come.
The great god of the sea, Rogergoodwellardo got mad at Davidsternopo, because his storms had killed some of Rogergoodwellardo’s sea creatures, like turtles, whales, and dolphins. Rogergoodwell got so mad that the seas kept getting rougher and rougher. They got so rough, in fact, that the seas started making whirlpools, tidal waves, and even tsunamis.
Kevinada was laying on the beach and had started to come to after being unconscious. The first thing he saw was a great wall of water headed toward him! He hurried to his feet and stumbled farther inland. He was too late. By the time he got to his feet and took the first couple shaky steps the giant tsunami had hit him. He was thrown even farther inland and then pulled back by the current of the next huge wave. Another wave hit him and he was flung under the water and hit his head on a big rock. That’s the last thing he remembered.
Phillipanu was clinging to his small piece of debris when the waves hit him. Being at sea, the waves weren’t as big as on land, but they were still huge, strong enough to rip him off his little piece of driftwood and down into the great ocean of Vootbalini. He was floating treading water and trying to keep his head above water. He started going around, and around, and around, and realized that he was stuck in a whirlpool! He swam as hard as he could to try to get out of it but the harder he tried the more tired he became. He just floated there limply trying to catch his breath and still he was going around and around. Then all of a sudden he got swept under the chilling water by a very strong current. He was under for about five minutes when his eyes rolled back and he went unconscious.
When Kevinada woke up he didn’t have any idea where he was. He was laying on some soft green grass with the sun beating down on him. He just laid there for a while until he started to get his energy back. He then decided to go exploring and try to figure out where he was. He found that just a little way from where he had landed was the beach was that he presumed he came from. He also found that in the other direction it only got steeper and steeper until it turned into cliffs. He named this mountain Dunkunik Mountain.
Phillipanu also woke up on a beach. His head was still bleeding and he was so sore and stiff he could hardly move. He decided to take it easy for a while and just drifted off back to sleep.
Kevinada was still exploring when he noticed it was starting to get dark. He went back to the green grass where he had first woken up and started working to build a shelter. As there were no trees he just propped some drift wood up against the side of a cliff on the Dunkunik Mountain. He made a nice little lean-to that had enough room for him to sleep in. He was feeling pretty good about himself when he heard his stomach growl.
It was getting dark fast so Kevinada hurried and went to find something to eat. All he found were a couple of grasshoppers. He put them in his pocket to eat if worse came to worse. He searched clear until way after dark and all he found were five grasshoppers and an iguana. He started to head back to camp when he realized that he didn’t know the way back. It took him at least three hours to finally get back to his shelter. Now he still couldn’t eat his catch because he had no way to cook them. He got really hungry so he ate the grasshoppers raw but he just couldn’t bring himself to eat the iguana raw. He decided to wait until tomorrow to deal with it, so he went into his shelter and drifted off to sleep.
Phillipanu woke up the next day as the sun came up over the sea. He found out that he could actually move that day and started to stretch out his muscles to see if he could walk. After a while of stretching he walked a little bit and it felt really good. He found that he was next to a lone coconut tree, the only tree he could see in any direction. He was really hungry, but also too weak to climb the tree and get a coconut. He started trying to create a fire because he was so cold from the frigid waters of the sea. He tried everything, striking rocks on rocks, and rolling a stick in between his hands but to no success. He finally gave up and decided to do the one thing he was good at in his weak state. He took a nap.
The next day Kevinada tried to make a fire to cook his iguana, but he couldn’t even conjure up a small spark. He decided to do some more exploring and look for some food on his way. He went quite a ways from his camp site this time and was about to turn back. He decided that he would go up over the next little rise and then turn back for camp. He went a little way further to the next rise and went over and saw what he was looking for and he started running for it.
Phillipanu woke up from his nap feeling a little better and decided to try and tackle the coconut tree to get a coconut because he was really hungry. He started to climb the tree when he heard a sound from the brush on the hillside above him. He grabbed a large rock in his hand and hid behind the tree ready for a wild animal to jump out at any moment.
Kevinada was running full speed toward the tree and he could just taste that sweet coconut in his mouth. He ran onto the beach and was looking up at the tree.
Phillipanu was hiding behind the tree and he just knew that some big mean wild animal was going to come out at him. A wolf, a mountain lion, or even a bear he thought. He could hear the thing get closer and closer until he could tell it was really close. He jumped out from the backside of the tree threw the rock.
As Kevinada was looking up at the tree all of a sudden a crazy guy jumped out from behind it and hit him with a big rock and knocked him out stone cold.
Phillipanu felt really bad and tended to guy he had hit. He did the best he could. He used a leaf and stopped the bleeding to the guy’s nose but it was starting to bruise up pretty bad. It looked like the guy had a broken nose and some major bruising to the face. The guy woke up about six hours later really mad. Phillipanu told him that he thought he was a wild animal and that’s why he hit him with the rock. The guy was still mad saying that maybe Phillpanu should have looked before he threw the rock, but he was starting to calm down a little.
The man finally got calmed down and Phillpanu asked what his name was and where he came from. The man said that his name was Kevinada Durantaran and he came from the village of Okctunda. Then Kevinada asked Phillpanu his name and how he got here. Phillipanu told him his name and told him the story of how his boat sunk and the whirlpool put him here. Kevinada told Phillipanu his story and they decided to do the one thing both of them were really good at. They took a nap.
Later that night the two guys built a shelter and tried once again to make fire. They built a really good shelter but they still didn’t even come close to building a fire. They then went to the tree and with the help of both of them, got three coconuts down. They beat the coconuts with rocks until they would crack open but I took a long time and a lot of hitting to finally get them to crack open. They were very good to very hungry stomachs they drank out the juice from them and then ate the outside edges.
They both started to notice a problem, there were only two more coconuts on the tree and no sign of any other life in any direction any other way. They couldn’t find any solution to this so they started to pray to the great gods Davidsternopo and Rogergoodwellardo to help them get some food so they could survive. The gods discussed it and decided that they would help the men to survive if they could do a quest for them. Phillipanu and Kevinada immediately agreed before they even knew what this quest would be. No such a smart move on their part.
They found out that in their quest they must climb to the top of the mountain which Keviada had named Dunkunik Mountain and there they must fight the evil monster Socagaoloc and kill it. Socagaoloc had been causing trouble for the gods and men alike so they wanted Phillipanu and Kevinada to kill it and bring its head to the gods. The gods warned them though that if they tried to run off they would be banished to the underworld of Ultimanimfrisba.
The gods sent Phillipanu and Kevinada enough food for a week and all the other supplies they would need such as medical things, climbing equipment, warm clothing, and weapons. Phillpanu got a bronze sword and a shield and Kevinada got an ivory bow and a whole sling of ivory arrows. Phillipanu’s sword could slice through any material and his shield could block any attack. Kevinada’s bow never missed the target he was aiming at and his arrows never ran out.
Phillipanu and Kevinada begin their quest and started to head up the mountain. The first day they made it up the foothills and it was starting to get dark so they decided to camp there for the night. They pitched their tents, made a fire, and cooked their food. It was very good food because it came from the gods. They decided that this was a lot better than grasshopper and started to laugh. They sat around the campfire for a while and talked of home. Kevinada told Phillipanu about his village of Ocktunda, his family, and how they owned a little meat shop. Phillipanu told Kevinada about his little seaport home of Sdcharganano. They put the fire out and go to bed.
The next day they get out their climbing equipment and start to scale the cliffs. The cliffs are over 2,000 feet high! They climbed all day until it was getting dark but they still were only a little over halfway to the top. They were trying to figure out what to do and still it was getting darker and darker. The only way they could think of was to keep climbing all night but they were very tired from climbing all day already.
